A graduation

From Grandma Nell

Sent to you on Saturday, 3 June 2034

Sam,

You’re reading this on the morning of your graduation, so I’ll keep it short. Somebody’s going to be banging on your door about the car any minute.

I recorded the video first. Took me three goes. The first two I couldn’t stop laughing about your science fair volcano, the one that went off in the back seat on the way there. Your mother still finds baking soda in that car.

Here’s the bit I didn’t manage on camera. You were never the fastest at anything, and you never quit anything either. Hang on to the second one. The first matters about half as much as people tell you.

Go and have your day. Wear the shoes that don’t pinch.
